Granny Sue, Pappy, Neal, Lauren, and Christine attended the West Indian Carnival and Parade in Brooklyn on Labor Day. We had a great time, but WOW it was LOUD!!!!
Some claim that the Carnival has become New York's largest cultural celebration, drawing crowds estimated between 1 and 3 million each year. The Carnival has even been featured in one of the state's "I Love New York" commercials promoting tourism in New York. A 2003 study found that the total economic impact of the Carnival was close to $200 million.
The costumes were very colorful. Thousands of masqueraders dance along miles of Parkway surrounded by crowds of onlookers. Floats loaded with elaborate costumes illustrate a particular theme chosen by each parading group, masquerade band or camp for that year.
The Carnival is an assertion of pan-Caribbean culture, bringing together people from different island nations under one umbrella, and demonstrating to the rest of the world the power and vibrancy of the peoples of the Caribbean.

Lauren has definitely enjoyed Granny Sue's company over the past few weeks! They spend their days going for long walks with Sadie, watching the Food Network Channel, and cooking Neal and Christine yummy meals for when they return at night (the shrimp and scallop skillet was divine!) Lauren is currently sporting her new 'little frenchy' outfit from the Navrat Grandparents.
My fellow intern/ friend had her newborn's dedication celebration last Sunday.
Toye is now five- weeks old.
